Back to Oz is a unique blend of live film, theatre, and live music made for the biggest stages in The Netherlands. The story follows Doortje, a Dutch weather presenter who, during a chaotic broadcast, finds herself in the magical world of Oz and follows along the Yellow Brick Road.
For this production, I created over a dozen large miniatures used in live video segments, projected on a 12 meter wide screen. We began with a two week tryout period, building fast prototypes and testing them live with different cameras. The process was hands-on and collaborative, involving regular artistic meetings, green screen tests, and lots of material exploration.
To keep the world Het Filiaal's tactile and handmade style, I used real textures, grains, herbs, hand-crafted trees, creating a layered, storybook feel. The show features live music (with K.O. Brass & Slagwerk Den Haag), and a cast that seamlessly blends performance with live camerawork, making it a warm, imaginative family experience!
